A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 39-year-old travel agent, Adebayo Oyeronke, to four years in prison for defrauding five individuals of N6.2 million in a visa scam.

Oyeronke, who pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and theft, was found guilty of collecting large sums of money from the victims under the pretense of securing Polish visas for them.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, in delivering the judgment, ruled that Oyeronke defrauded the complainants—Rita Francis, Mohammed Sadiq, Christian Baba, Williams Abiodun, and Nathan Victor—of a combined sum of N6.2 million.

The magistrate gave no option of a fine and further ordered the convict to pay N2 million in compensation to each of the five victims.

Additionally, the court directed Oyeronke to swear an affidavit of good conduct, committing to abstain from criminal activities in the future.

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Chidi Leo, the offence took place between December 2024 and April 2025 in Barnawa, Kaduna. Leo told the court that the defendant disappeared after collecting the money, only to be apprehended on May 15.

The offences, the court heard, are in violation of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
