Ihsanatu Shaaibu, the woman identified in a viral video physically abusing her 5-year-old stepdaughter, Fa’iza Bala, has been arrested.
The video, which sparked outrage across social media platforms, shows Shaaibu inflicting grievous injuries on the child, prompting swift intervention by law enforcement authorities.
The arrest occurred on Thursday, January 9, 2025, with the suspects in police custody.
According to ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted as soon as the process is concluded.
“We are committed to ensuring justice is served in this case. The protection of children is a top priority, and we will not tolerate such acts of violence,” Adejobi stated.
The video, which circulated widely, drew condemnation from various quarters, including child rights organizations and concerned citizens.
Many called for stringent measures against child abuse and better protective mechanisms for vulnerable children.
Adejobi assured the public that the police would keep them informed about the progress of the case and reiterated the force’s dedication to addressing child abuse cases swiftly and thoroughly.
“We will provide regular updates on the proceedings to ensure transparency and accountability,” he added.
