The United States Center for Disease Control Global new Country Director, Dr Mary A. Boyd, has reiterated the United States’ commitment to support the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its quest to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Nigerians.
The message was made when Dr Boyd led a delegation on a familiarization and courtesy visit to the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, and his management team, at the NCDC Administrative Headquarters in Abuja.
Dr Boyd stated that the U.S. through CDC would continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the NCDC, as it worked towards protecting the lives and wellbeing of Nigerians through early detection and response to disease threats in the country.
She commended the DG and his management team for moving the institution forward through innovative approaches in developing structures and systems that had effectively responded to Nigeria’s public health needs.
She emphasized that the joint collaborative partnership would focus on strengthening the capacity of Nigerian public health systems for improved disease surveillance and workforce development, adding that it would also improve laboratory services, infection prevention and control, and emergency public health response in Nigeria.
