Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons played out a thrilling 1-1 in their NWFL Super Six match.

The game was evenly contested, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

The first half ended goalless, despite both teams’ efforts to break the deadlock. Nasarawa Amazons dominated possession, but Bayelsa Queens’ defense held strong.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 55th minute when Bayelsa Queens defender Jennifer Oliver was given a red card for handling a goal-bound ball inside the six-yard box. Nasarawa Amazons were awarded a penalty, which Janet Akekoromowei converted to put her team ahead.

Despite being down to 10 players, Bayelsa Queens continued to press for an equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when Dooshima Tarnum, a second-half substitute, scored from a free-kick.

The draw took both teams to four points. Bayelsa Queens’ Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, attributed the penalty and red card to disrupting their game plan. However, he praised his team’s resilience in securing a draw with 10 players.

Whyte Ogbonda said the red card and penalty affected their strategy, but they made tactical changes that paid off. Bayelsa Queens are now third in the standings, while Nasarawa Amazons are second.

Bayelsa Queens will face Remo Stars Ladies in their next match, seeking to bounce back and climb the standings.
