Contrary to reports that the former Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Maharazu Tsiga (retd) has been freed by his abductors, a family member has said the former DG is still in captivity.
A report by LEADERSHIP newspaper on Sunday in Katsina, Abdulahi Tsiga said that although negotiations with the kidnappers had been completed and all terms agreed upon, the family was still awaiting the bandits to fulfil their part of the agreement.
He said rumours about his release were not correct, even as they had done everything required and were only waiting for the bandits.
He expressed optimism that the ex-NYSC DG would soon regain freedom.
Tsiga was abducted from his home in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, on February 6, 2025.
On March 1st, it was widely reported that kidnappers had freed General Tsiga after 22 days in captivity.
Bandits kingpin Babaro had demanded N250 million for Tsiga’s release.
But it is not known how much was paid for his freedom, the report had said.
