The Eastern Union (EU), a social- political organisation, has described comments credited to Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly, as inciteful and out of tune with the reality on ground.
The union described Bakare as not only a hypocrite, but also a fake man of God.
The President of EU, Anike Charles said on Wednesday, that Mr Tunde Bakare’s attempt to incite the North against Igbos was hypocritical, and calculated mischief that had no place in human heart.
He stated that Bakare lost his anoiting and relationship with God since he went into politics, adding that he was being forced to make such hate speech because of inordinate ambition and wrong relationship.
“The Eastern Union therefore, requests that Tunde Bakare should immediately swallow his pride and forfeit whatever hidden agenda, retrace his footsteps and tender unreserved public apology to the Igbos in particular and Nigerians at large; for trying to incite other Nigerians against the Igbos through his well calculated heresy.
“It’s obvious and very clear from Bakare’s recent messages, it’s either that Mr. Bakare has lost the annoiting or have completely lost touch with God, due to wrong association and inordinate ambition,” Anike disclosed.
Bakare had in his sermon, entitled: “Why lgbos cannot be President,” said that Igbos were cursed by Tafawa Belewa, never to be President.
Anike, while reacting to the speech, further described Bakare’s message as a hate speech, adding that the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, should sanction Bakare for his message.
According to him, the pulpit was supposed and should be a place of healing, a place of Unity and harmony but Bakare had made it a place to preach hatred against a tribe.
“It is also not a place to incite some people against another. And those who do otherwise are committing hieneous crimes and dreadful transgressions
“It is a well known fact that the preachers of the Gospel in the Bible were instruments in the hand of God for the restoration of people and destinies of Nations.”
He said most preachers in the image of Bakare had deviated to embrace the theology which was neither contained in the Bible nor had any resemblance of Christianity.
“The case of Tunde Bakare, a self-acclaimed man of God, who obviously had lost his voice, neither as a man of God nor a politician, was one too many.
“The critical question that is begging for an answer, is whether Tunde Bakare can comfortably say what he preached recently, in a well circulated video, was revealed to him by God, or it was mere fiction in his mind which can never be proven,” Anike stated.
He said the line of theology that Bakare toed could not be found in the archives of the Nigeria history, adding that Mr Bakare needed to tell Nigerians how and where he got his facts.
“To me this act of blasphemy against the Igbos is unacceptable and must be redressed, especially at this critical time in our Nation’s history, where the unity of out Country has been challenged and threatened more than any time else.”
Anike explained that despite the claims, Bakare’s messages were conjectures of hearsays and rumours.
“To me, the National Broadcasting Commission should have categorised the Bakare massage, entitled ‘why lgbos cannot be President’ as a hate speech,” he quipped.
“The Eastern Union, therefore, request that Tunde Bakare should immediately swallow his pride and forfeit whatever hidden agenda, retrace his footsteps and tender unreserved public apology to the Igbos in particular and Nigerians at large; for trying to incite other Nigerians against the Igbos through his well calculated heresy.”
