Athletics: Team Bayelsa arrives in Uyo for MTN Champs finals

Bayelsa State contingent to the finals of the MoC/MTN Champs athletics finals has arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for the four-day meet.

19 athletes were registered in the different categories of Senior, Junior(U-20), Youth (U-17), and Cadet (U-14).

The athletes will compete in both the track and field events in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, Relays, and Long Jump.

Daje Lucky, Sophia Efetobore, and little Ebimoboere Christopher of Samkay Athletics Academy are already in Uyo to defend their titles in 100m200m races.

Young middle distance sensation, Odi-born Samson Teibowei, of SamKay Athletics Academy who won silver in the Benin edition, is battle ready for the gold medals in 800m Junior.

The SamKay Athletics Club is sponsoring about 11 young athletes to the competition in Uyo.

Team Bayelsa comprises Perezide Sigah, Sophia Efetobore, Sarah Lori, Daje Lucky, Shalom George, Augustine Ezeruike, Bright Benson, and Isaac Miracle.

Others are, Paebi Gabriel, Ebimoboere Christopher, Gift Allison, Faith Ezechukwu, Ebikiemo Ikaido, Clement Lucky, Samson Teibowei, Tokoni Itu, Goodluck Johnbull, Bariweni Godgift and Goodluck Kabowei, all of SamKay Athletics Academy.

Bayelsa State Athletics Head Coach, Richard Torugbene is leading the technical team, which also has experienced coach Maurice Terimoh.

Team Bayelsa Senior team won the overall best at the MTN Champs in Benin City earlier in March.
