Anambra guber poll: Sen. Ugochukwu Uba is PDP’s standard bearer, emerges from a parallel primary election

▪︎Beats Ezeemo, Ekwunife to second, third positions respectively

A former member of the National Assembly and University lecturer, Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, PhD, on Saturday emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election.

The primary election that produced him was organised by the Chief Chukwudi Umeaba-led faction.

The exercise held at Paul University Complex, Awka.

Reports said that Uba polled 275 votes from the total 665 votes cast to emerge PDP flag bearer of the faction.

Chief Godwin Ezeemo garnered 114 votes to come second in the contest while Sen. Uche Ekwunife was third with 56 votes.

Dr Obiora Okonkwo scored 44 votes.

Others aspirants were: Dr Godwin Maduka 22 votes, Mr Jonny Maduafokwa 27 votes, Rep Chris Azubogu two votes, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Dr Ifedi Okwenna two votea, Chief Walter Okeke 42 votes.

Uba thanked the leadership, faithful and delegates for considering worthy of their endorsement to be the standard bearer of the party.

He pleadged to restore PDP to its pride of place in Anambra politics after 16 years of being in the doldrums.

He said that if elected governor on Nov. 6, he would address the leadership challenges of the state, including local government system.

Uba was a member of the senate between 2003 and 2007.

Meanwhile accreditation for the parallel primary election at the Dora Akunyili Development Centre, was still going on at the time of filing this report.

Mr Philip Shuaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo State who is leading the team of the PDP national delegation had confirmed the withdrawal of Mr Tony Nwoye and Emeka Etiaba (SAN) from the race.

The PDP in Anambra is divided between the Ndubuisi Nwobu led State Executive Committee and Umeaba led Acting Caretaker Committee following an Abuja High Court ruling on June 9.
