Amnesty International Nigeria has called on the Nigerian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Nastura Ashir Sharif

The International human rights organization in a post on social media said Nastura Ashir Sharif has done nothing more than speaking up in defence of people’s right to life and calling for an end to the rising insecurity across northern Nigeria.

Nastura Ashir Sharif leader of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), was reportedly arrested for organizing the protest calling on President Muhammadu Buhari as well as Governor Aminu Masari to resign over their inability to give adequate security to people across the country, and Katsina State
Amnesty International also stated that Nastura Ashir Sharif was simply asking the authorities to do their job.

“His arrest appears to be an attempt to intimidate and harass both him and others peacefully exercising freedom of assembly and expression.
“Protest is not a crime, it is a right. Subjecting activists to such arbitrary arrest is a violation of Nigerian and international human rights laws,” the group said.
