Amnesty International (AI) has expressed deep concern over threats of further demolitions of houses at Mpape community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the authorities.
The International Human Right group called on the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello to ensure that the relevant authorities, immediately halt plans for further demolitions.
Amnesty International further called on the minister to consider all feasible alternatives to evictions in genuine consultation with all affected people.
The group urges the minister to ensure that any person affected by a proposed eviction is served adequate written notice, within a reasonable time and is provided with adequate alternative accommodation.
Amnesty International reminded the authority that housing is a human right and this right must be respected and protected.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) recently rolled out its bulldozers, pulling down over 2, 000 structures in the area.
Most of the affected structures were said to be illegal roadside shanties, containers and others obstructing traffic flow.
