Human rights activist and attorney, Deji Adeyanju, has called for better salaries for lawyers in Nigeria, citing the country’s tough economic conditions

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, December 21, Adeyanju insisted that no lawyer should earn less than N250,000 as a base salary, not including other benefits.

He expressed concerns that law firms paying below this amount are undermining the value of the legal profession.

“With the current state of affairs in Nigeria, no lawyer should earn less than N250,000 as a base salary, exclusive of other benefits,” Adeyanju stated. “Any law firm offering less is belittling the profession. We must lead by example in advocating for change within our field.”

Adeyanju’s remarks have sparked discussions within both the legal community and the general public, shedding light on the financial difficulties many young lawyers in Nigeria face.
