The Presidency has taken up the gauntlet thrown down by a former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party,

Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed that President Bola Tinubu should not contest 2027 presidential election.

Taking up the gauntlet against Tinubu’s right to contest, a presidential spokesperson said President Tinubu would secure a smooth victory in the 2027 election due to his leadership and reforms.

In a post shared on his verified social media account, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, criticised Datti’s recent TV interview in which he made his position public.

Sunday Dare said Baba-Ahmed’s position made no sense, and his arguments were tenuous.

“Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed’s ‘illogical logic’ was all over the place in his recent interview. He peddled arguments that were flawed, devoid of reason and empty,” he wrote.

Dare also compared Datti’s political analysis to false predictions made by so-called prophets, calling it unreliable.

“If listening to a Peter Obi interview was a punishment, listening to Baba-Ahmed, his defunct running mate, is a torment,” Dare added.

“His political logic is not fit for even a first-year political science class.”

He accused Datti of ignoring the real achievements of President Tinubu.

Instead of focusing on facts, Dare said Datti chose to speak on topics he didn’t fully understand.

“He conveniently avoided the substance of performance and capacity,” Dare said.

“Unfortunately, he chose to walk into a lane he was unfamiliar with and chose to confront a politician he is no match for.”

Calling Datti and other opposition figures “Presidential Wannabes,” Dare said politics was not for dreamers or weak people.

According to him, it was for people with strong achievements, courage, and clear vision — things he believed Datti did not have.

He also criticised Datti for saying Tinubu hadn’t kept his campaign promises.

Dare adverted attention to recent economic reforms and support from international groups as proofs that progress was being made.

“The positive impacts of the tough choices the President has made in the interest of the country are already being felt. Even the IMF recently acknowledged — ‘Tinubu’s reforms have put the economy in a better position to navigate this external environment,’” he quoted IMF representative Ari Aisen Schimmelpfennig to have said.

On the next election, Dare said: “In 2027, Baba-Ahmed and the other Presidential Wannabes will need all the marines available to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He advised that “Instead of running the circuit of television networks to peddle his poorly thought-out conjectures, Baba-Ahmed should seriously consider how to rehabilitate his failed political career… If he is smart, he will simply keep quiet and leave politics for those equipped for that complicated art.”
