At least 15 people have been rescued after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Monday at No. 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in Oyingbo, Lagos.
The incident, which occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on October 27, 2025, prompted an immediate response from emergency agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which is still conducting search and rescue operations to locate more victims feared trapped beneath the rubble.
Reports indicate that the structure had earlier been declared distressed by authorities, and occupants were advised to vacate the premises prior to the collapse.
Confirming the development, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the rescue operation was still ongoing.
“It is an active rescue involving a two-storey building earlier marked as distressed before it gave way. So far, 15 victims—seven adult males, four adult females, and four children—have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries,” she stated.
According to her, the injured persons have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.
As of 6:00 a.m., no fatalities had been confirmed, though emergency responders continued to search for those still trapped.
The collapse threw the Oyingbo area into chaos as residents and sympathisers joined emergency officials in desperate efforts to clear debris and save more lives.
